What makes Knysna unique, are the Estuary and its famous mouth – The Heads – which are managed by SANParks as part of the Garden Route National Park.
Where fresh water meet the sea water from the Indian Ocean through the ‘Knysna Heads’ - with the majestic sandstone cliffs on either side of entrance to the Knysna Lagoon.
The western head forms part of the privately owned Featherbed Nature Reserve, best known for the rugged rocks and sandstone caves refered to as nostrils.
The eastern head has many spectacular viewpoints overlooking Coney Glen with it's small beach coves, the channel, Indian Ocean, the Knysna Lagoon, and the Outeniqua Mountains.
A very dramatic entrance from or to the sea.
